GOLDEN HANDCUFFS

I am involved through TomorrowToday in setting up a division called TomorrowWisdom.
Go there: www.tomorrowwisdom.biz We have two main directions with this business unit. Namely the retiring boomer generation ( the first group turn 60 this year) and secondly addressing how the loss of knowledge and skill of this group could affect organisations. I have completed a course called Retirement Options. The profile test here helps an individual to plot across 15 success factors where they may fall short in the future.Studying aging populations has proven that leisure activities alone will not bring meaning to life and that this group could live in retirement for as long as they were in the work place. For many this is a terrifying thought. I hope to help these individuals understand who they are, what skills they have and link them to groups and organisations where these skills will be needed. At the other end of the spectrum, organisations are losing valuable skills and often do not have the process in place to manage knowledge continuity. Many South African companies are already feeling the impact of middle management being in a state of chaos.
For individuals heading towards this stage of life I ask three questions?
Do you know who you are without your organisation?
Are you scared to leave the workplace that you love, you would rather die on the job?
Are you feeling pressurised to cope and survive in a work environment that you hate?

If any of these questions ring true it would be wise to start addressing the possible problems that could arise and start to find solutions. The problems will not go away, they will only loom more and more. The future could be one of the greatest times of your life. Will you be handcuffed or free? Your Choice ?

The Sought after picture

Most people around the world would love to have a photograph of themselves with Mandela. Well this is about as close as I think I will ever get. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have been in the presence of this great leader. Posted by Picasa

In Search of meaning

I am sure that part of the empty nest syndrome is asking the question? What now? For many women being a mother is one of the greatest gifts that God gives us. It brings meaning and direction to one's life for a long period of time. When the children leave and go far away like both of mine have, one reaches this line in the sand with a brick wall feeling. I have been searching for the NOW WHAT GOD? path in my life for the past few months. I am busy reading a book called Pathway to Purpose for Women by Katie Brazelton. The author states that we need to track the path we have walked as God will use these milestones to help develop our future. I have been doing this for the past few weeks and am starting to see light on the path.

I am involved in a new business unit for the TomorrowToday Group called TomorrowWisdom. Have a look at the site www.tomorrowwisdom.biz
I now have the awesome privilege to help others discover meaning to life as they reach the retirement phase. As much as we all want some leisure time as we grow older we need a reason to get up daily. At the same time my church has asked me to help on a project called Believe in Tomorrow. This project has identified 50 young leaders in high schools in the area who need guidance and life skills so that they will be ready to face the world when they finish school. What a privilege to give back and teach others some of the skills I have been privileged to learn over the past 30 years in the workplace. Posted by Picasa
